History of the Oscar Joel Bryant Foundation

photo of Oscar Joel BryantOn May 13, 1968, a citizen informed the University Division of a robbery in progress at a dress shop on Western Avenue.

After requesting back up, Officer Oscar Joel Bryant rushed to the scene where he single-handedly confronted three suspects. Without warning, one of the suspects drew a concealed weapon and fired upon Officer Bryant. Although mortally wounded, Officer Bryant continued to exchange gunfire, prevented their escape and made their capture possible by responding officers.
